Boy in Red Shorts grew out of an old family photograph taken during a childhood vacation. I was drawn to the boy’s expression and posture, which seemed to suggest something beyond the ordinary moment captured in the photograph.

I removed the original setting, wanting to see how little I could put on the canvas while still capturing what had initially drawn me to the image.
